Gay and Lesbian Travel in Nouvelle Caledonie – New Caledonia

Q & A with South Pacific Gay Travel Specialist

Ask Dee, South Pacific Lesbian & Gay Tourism Specialist

Q. I want a very French fling, but don’t want to spend 24 hours in the air to get to Gay Paree.  Is there an affordable French Territory closer to Australia and gay friendly?

A.  Yes, New Caledonia.  Two hours away from Brisbane and 2.5 hours from Sydney International Airports – and you don’t need a visa if you carry a valid passport from Australia or New Zealand.

New Caledonia Tourism welcomes lesbian and gay travellers, as does the international air carrier Aircalin, both of whom are now members of the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association.

Locally, you are welcome to attend events and parties organised by Homo-Sphere in the capital city, Noumea.

I have personally inspected a dozen properties in New Caledonia, from the bargain end to the luxury retreat.  New Caledonia has something for everyone’s budget, so you can sleep well but still have money left over to indulge in gourmet food that New Caledonia is so famous for in the Paris end of the South Pacific.
